Rules for M.Phil Scholarship


  1. . Normally 20 Ph.D. Scholarships shall be awarded annually.
    The students having four first divisions/classes in their career prior to M.Phil degree shall get Taka 550 per month and those having three or less first divisions/classes in their career period a candidate having third division/class in any of the examinations he passed shall not be eligible for the Ph.D. Scholarships. These scholarships shall be tenable for one year in the first instance and renewable for the second year on the recommendation of the Supervisor of the student and the Chairman of the Department concerned. Their scholarships shall be awarded/renewed subject to good conduct and satisfactory progress in his/her research work.
  2. (a) Notice inviting applications for PhD scholarships for each session will be issued by the Registrar after publication of the results of the comprehensive examination
    (b) The applications will be received by the Registrar through the Chairman of the Department of concerned.
  3. The scholarship may be renewed for the 3rd year or provision thereof, as a special case if see recommended by the Supervisor of the student and the Chairman of the Department concerned provided that at least 50% of the thesis has been completed by the student.
  4. Other terms and conditions shall be the same as for M.Phil scholarships (vide sections 3,4,5,6,7,9,and 10).



Rules for Ph.D Scholarship

  1. M.Phil, scholarships shall be awarded annually. The students having four first divisions/classes in their career, shall get Taka 500.00 per month and those with three or less first division/class shall get Taka 450-00 per month, provided that a candidate having third division/class in any of the examinations he passed shall not be eligible for the M.Phil, scholarship. These scholarships shall be tenable for one year in the first instance and renewable for the second year subject to good conduct, satisfactory progress of study and passing of the final year examination.
  2. a) Notice inviting applications for M.Phil. Scholarships for each session Will be issued by the Registrar after publication of the results of the final M.A./M.SC./M.Com*examinations.
    b) The aoplications will be received by the Registrar through the Chairman of-the-.JOepajrtment concerned.
  3. The scholarships shall be awarded by the Academic Council on the recommendation of a standing committee constituted as follows:-
    a) The Vice-Chancellor
    b) The Dean of the Faculties of the University propose
    c) Two members of the Board of Advanced Studies elected by the Board of Advanced Studies at the first meeting of the Boards in the session, who will hold office for one year only and will not be eligible for re-election in the following year.
    d) The Registrar.
  4. In awarding the M.Phil, scholarships the following conditions shall be taken into account; a) The evidence of aptitude for research.
    b) Academic qualifications which shall be of a high order,
    c) Resources of the University for enabling the candidates to carry on research work in one subjects submitted; such resources should include the possibility of effective supervision and laboratory and library facilities etc.
  5. The holder of the scholarship shall only be permitted to take up their scholarship from the beginning of a month. The year for the M.Phil scholarships shall be 12 months counted from the calendar month in which they take up research work.
  6. 'The holder of an M.Phil, scholarship shall be required to give an undertaking that he will devote his whole time to the study and research. He will not be permitted to prepare himself for any University examination, other than that for M.Phil, or for any examination, for Govt. service or to accept any post during the period.
  7. The hold of an M.Phil scholarship shall also be required to give a written undertaking that if he relinquishes it voluntarily or fails to fulfill the above conditions before the completion of the course for which it was awarded he will refund in full the scholarship money paid to him.
  8. (a) A scholar, who -fails, to-appear at or pass the first year M.Phil, examination shall not be entitled to any scholarship even if he continues the study.
    The scholarship that will thus fall vacant for the second year may be awarded to another second year M.Phil, student in consideration of his performance in the first year M.Phil, examination.
  9. The holders of M.Phil, scholarships like other students shall be resident in or attached to any of the Halls of residence of thy University.
  10. The Chairman of the Department concerned shall be responsible for strict compliance of the rules by the scholars.
