S. M. Latiful Khabir
Lecturer
S. M. Latiful Khabir is a Lecturer of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prior to this, he has served as lecturer at the Department of Theatre and Media Studies, Abudharr Ghifari College, Bangladesh.
Mr. Latiful Khabir received his Bachelors (Honours-2017) and Masters in Arts (MA-2018) specializing in Acting, Direction and Design from the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, University of Dhaka (DU), Bangladesh. In 2019, He received an Indian ICCR Scholarship and got his second Masters in Performing Arts (MPA-2021) degrees specializing in Indian Traditional Classical Folk and Sanskrit Theatre from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU), India.
Mr. Latiful Khabir has received the prestigious Shri Vivek Shindhe Memorial Gold Medal 2021 and Theatre Consultant (Stage), Harivadan Jivanlal Parikh Gold Medal 2021 from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU), India for his best sagacity at the University. University of Dhaka awarded him Dean's Award of Honor 2022 and Dean's Merit List of Academic Recognition 2022 for securing the highest CGPA and 1st class 1st position both in Bachelors and Masters at the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies.
Mr. Latiful Khabir has directed over 10 plays and acted in over 30 plays in Bangladesh and India. His directed plays include Cut it Out (2017), Death of a Salesman (2019), Hamletmachine (2020), Prokash 21 (2023), Nilaksha Ba-Dwip (2024), Nona Kathan (2025), etc. are notable. His prominent acted plays are Feriwala (2014), Crave and Not Crave (2015), Shakespeare Saptak (2016), Bohni Bisarjan Bo-Dwip (2017), Macbeth (2018), Andhayuge (2019), Himmat Mai (2020), Hamletmachine (2020), Ashad AKa Ek Din (2021), etc. In 2019, he toured nationally and internationally, and achieved significant acclaim by performing Macbeth directed by Dr. Israfil Shaheen at the Bharat Rang Mahotsav organized by the National School of Drama (NSD), India.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Mr. Latiful Khabir has an active involvement in various cultural associations of Mauritius, Sri Lanka and India. He participated in various international theatre festivals, seminars, conferences, workshops organized by Spain, Russia, Japan, Sri Lanka and India. he conducted various theatre workshops, seminars, direction and design projects organized by various national and important institutes and cultural organizations; such as Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Theatre School, Actor's Studio, North South University etc. From 2022 to 2024, he worked on a research project on Art Therapy to improve mental health in various mental health institutes and hospitals, child development centers, and rehabilitation centers in Bangladesh.
This theatre educator, director and actor has been playing a significant role in creating aesthetic beauty in this field through his relentless efforts and theoretical and practical participation in Bangladesh and outside the country.
