I am a researcher in parasitology and infectious diseases with over four years of research experience gained at the Parasitology Laboratory, Department of Zoology, University of Dhaka, and at icddr,b (www.icddrb.org), an internationally recognized health research organization dedicated to improving global health through scientific research and treatment. My research interests broadly span infectious diseases, host–parasite interactions, and the public health implications of parasitic and microbial infections.

For my M.S. thesis, I investigated the consequences of Helicobacter pylori infection during early pregnancy, with a particular focus on its impact on maternal nutritional status. The study examined key vitamin B12 biomarkers, including serum total vitamin B12, holo-transcobalamin, folic acid, and homocysteine levels, to understand how bacterial infection may influence micronutrient deficiency during pregnancy. This work contributed to addressing an important research gap in Bangladesh regarding the relationship between H. pylori infection and maternal nutrition.

Building on insights gained from this research, I later published a systematic review and meta-analysis in the peer-reviewed journal BMJ Open Gastroenterology (PMID: 33093020). My early research efforts were largely dedicated to understanding how nutritional deficiencies during pregnancy and early childhood can affect immune system development and potentially lead to weakened vaccine responses.

My research interests later expanded into parasitology, where I worked on the identification and characterization of protozoan parasitic infections in freshwater catfishes. This work contributed to understanding parasite diversity and host–parasite interactions in aquatic systems.

In Fall 2024, I was affiliated with Clemson University as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and PhD researcher. During this period, my research focused on investigating the chloride channel of Toxoplasma gondii, aiming to better understand its physiological role and potential significance in parasite biology and pathogenesis. Alongside my research activities, I assisted in undergraduate laboratory instruction and student mentoring, gaining valuable experience in teaching and academic training.

Overall, my research experience reflects a multidisciplinary approach that integrates microbiology, parasitology, nutrition, and public health to better understand infectious diseases and their broader biological and societal impacts.
