My research and teaching interests focuses on natural hazards, risk perception, climate risk management and resilience, in particular focus on flood risk management in urban areas. My research area are therefore, concerned with interactions between interdisciplinary themes including Natural Hazards, Risk, and Emergency Management; Flood Risk Management; Climate Variability; and Hydrology.

I completed my PhD at the School of Engineering of Newcastle University, UK. My doctoral advisors were Prof. Claire Walsh and Prof. Hayley Fowler. I obtained my Masters and Bachelor's degree (First Class with 1^st and 7^th position respectively) in Geography and Environment at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

In my PhD I worked on Urban Flood Risk Management problem in Dhaka (in particular focus on the urban flooding/water logging risk problem in the respective vulnerable and affected awards of the two city corporations’ areas of Dhaka city) in terms of ‘Citizen Science’ approach/concept together with the ‘extreme rainfall pattern and trends’ of Dhaka City. In addition, my research identified the flood extent- flood water inundation depth and flood exposure of the buildings in two case-study catchments in the two city corporations’ areas of Dhaka by applying the hydrodynamic model, CityCAT. Altogether my research quantified both the quantitative and qualitative aspects to analyse urban flooding/water logging risk in Dhaka and proposed a “new holistic framework” to manage the urban flooding risk situation in the city.

Prior to the University of Dhaka, I was in the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (a leading research organisation in Bangladesh) in its "Celebration of 400 Years of Capital Dhaka Programme", where I worked as an Associate Research Coordinator.

• Masters Thesis Project supervision: Started supervision of Masters Thesis (from March 2025); Supervised two Masters thesis students [Khandoker Maharunnasa (Research topic: Earcthquake) and Kamona Akter Mim (Research topic: Flood); both of them completed in August 2026)]. Co-supervised one Masters Thesis student in 2024.

Most of the research project students (under my supervision) mainly worked and working on the topics of Natarual Hazards and Risk Management (floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc.), Climate Variability and its Impact, Climate Risk Management, Urban Hydrology; and interdisciplinary perspectives.
