The Department of Women and Gender Studies (DWGS), University of Dhaka, organized an insightful and timely webinar titled “Ethical Use of Information as a Foundation for a Responsible AI Future.”The session was conducted by Professor Md. Anwarul Islam, PhD, Department of Information Science & Library Management, and Additional Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), University of Dhaka.
The webinar was attended by the chairperson of the department, along with other distinguished faculty members and students, who actively participated in the discussion, making the session both engaging and intellectually stimulating.
Throughout the webinar, Professor Islam emphasized the critical importance of upholding information ethics in research and academic writing. He highlighted that while artificial intelligence has significantly eased various stages of research (such as literature review, data analysis, referencing etc.), it has simultaneously intensified ethical challenges related to plagiarism, fabrication, authorship, data integrity, and responsible citation practices. In this context, he stressed the necessity of strengthening academic awareness, AI literacy, and institutional guidelines to ensure the responsible and transparent use of AI-driven tools.
