Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka

The Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka (CI at DU) jointly established by Yunnan University of China and Dhaka University of Bangladesh officially began operation in May 2016.On October 14, 2016, It was unveiled by H.E Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China and H.E Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

The Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka is the second Confucius Institute in Bangladesh and the second Confucius Institute hosted by Yunnan University in Bangladesh. With the development of CI at DU, Yunnan University and University of Dhaka have carried out extensive and in-depth exchanges and cooperation. In the future, the two universities will give full play to their respective academic advantages and geographical advantages, and strive to build a Confucius Institute that will carry forward China-Bangladesh friendship and promote the integrated development of Chinese language teaching, cultural exchange and academic research.

With the assistance of the CI at DU, the University of Dhaka set up the first Chinese undergraduate program in Bangladesh in 2016. To strengthen the academic and cultural exchanges between the two universities, the China-Bangladesh Research Center and the China-Bangladesh Culture and Art Exchange Center were established. Based on these platforms, the two universities held a series of Conference, Seminars and cultural exchange activities. Some institutionalized programs had been established, such as Chinese Culture Month, Confucius Institute Forum, China-Bangladesh Cultural and Art Exchange Festival, Chinese Corner and China-Bangladesh Language and Culture Exchange Camp, etc.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka is committed to promoting the development of Chinese language education in Bangladesh and enhancing Bangladeshi people’s understanding of China. It offers different levels and types of Chinese language courses and cultural courses for Bangladeshi Chinese learners. It also provides credit courses for undergraduates of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture and the Department of Organization Strategy & Leadership of DU. On 10th December 2021, the CIDU teaching center at the Chittagong University was established. So far, more than 7,000 students have studied at CI at DU.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka will continue to commit itself to the language and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Bangladesh and make contributions to the people-to-people exchanges and friendship between the two countries.
