About Us

The International Hostel was established in 1966. In memory of Sir Philip Joseph Hartog (1864–1947), the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, the Hostel was renamed Sir P.J. Hartog International Hall in 2001.

Professor M. A. Kawser, from the Department of History, is the current Provost of the Hall. Currently, 117 foreign students, 49 early-career teachers, and 3 officers reside here. The Hall has nine guest rooms to accommodate visiting researchers and scholars. The Hall observes several national days with due respect and solemnity. Indoor game tournaments are organized for the residents. The Hall also features a spacious dining hall with modern and hygienic kitchens, and a reading room equipped with a library and computer facilities.

Recently, a separate block has been renovated exclusively for foreign female students. Each room in the block is well-furnished, and this block features a fully equipped kitchen with a dining space. Another block, consisting of 13 rooms, is currently under renovation. All the rooms in this block will be fully furnished with modern fittings to ensure comfort and convenience for the residents.

Two beautiful gardens in front of the hall further enhance its appeal and create a pleasant environment for the residents.
