Dr. Mohammad Abul Hossain is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Chemical Technology and M.Eng. in Material Engineering from Kanazawa University, Japan, following First Class degrees in Chemistry from the University of Dhaka. With more than 31 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership, he has established a distinguished career in environmental chemistry and sustainable materials research.

His research focuses on environmental chemistry, adsorption science, surface chemistry, biomass-derived adsorbents, nanomaterials, and sustainable water and wastewater treatment. His pioneering work on used black tea leaves as a low-cost biosorbent and carbon nanoparticles derived from diesel soot has advanced innovative, environmentally friendly technologies for the removal of heavy metals and organic pollutants from contaminated water. His research integrates fundamental science with practical solutions to address environmental pollution, resource recovery, and public health challenges.

Professor Hossain has published 150 scholarly works, including 61 peer-reviewed journal articles, completed 14 competitive research projects, and supervised 73 graduate researchers. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho/MEXT) Scholarship, the Dean's Gold Medal of the University of Dhaka, the University of Dhaka Research Excellence Recognition, and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Best Paper Award. He also serves as an editor, reviewer, and active participant in international scientific collaborations, reflecting his commitment to advancing research, higher education, and sustainable development.

His research and professional activities directly support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). He is committed to translating scientific research into innovative, evidence-based solutions that promote environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and the protection of ecosystems and human health.
