Professor & Director
Center for Urban Resilience Studies

Welcome to the Center for Urban Resilience Studies (CURS) at the University of Dhaka.

Urban areas today face growing challenges from earthquakes, climate change, unplanned development, environmental degradation, and disaster risks. In cities such as Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, and other growing urban centers, resilience is not only a disaster-management concern but also a development priority. Urban systems must be prepared to withstand earthquakes, flooding, heat stress, drainage congestion, infrastructure failure, and climate-induced migration pressures. CURS is committed to advancing interdisciplinary research, evidence-based planning, and capacity development to strengthen urban resilience in Bangladesh and beyond.

Our work brings together expertise in earthquake engineering, engineering seismology, engineering geophysics, disaster risk management, climate resilience, GIS, remote sensing, engineering geology, and urban sustainability. Through research, training, collaboration, and policy engagement, the Center aims to support safer, more adaptive, and more sustainable cities.

As Director, I look forward to working with academics, researchers, policymakers, professionals, development partners, and communities to build knowledge and practical solutions for resilient urban futures.
