During 2 to 5 August 2026, the Centre for China Studies(CCS) invited Associate Professor Li Jian of the College of Transportation Engineering, Tongji University, to Bangladesh for a series of academic activities. During his visit, Li Jian delivered two thematic lectures at North South University and the University of Dhaka, and took part in an interview jointly produced by China Media Group (CMG) and RTV. Wu Mengke, Executive Deputy Director of the China Research Center (Bangladesh), accompanied him throughout the activities.

On the afternoon of 3 August, Associate Professor Li Jian delivered a lecture entitled “Leveraging Large Language Models for Urban Mobility Management” to faculty members and students at North South University. The event was chaired by Associate Professor Mohammad Sujauddin of the Department of Environmental Science and Management at North South University. In his lecture, Li Jian introduced a methodological framework that integrates knowledge graphs with language models to build knowledge-enhanced large language models for urban traffic management. He explained the approach from four dimensions—data, knowledge graphs, models, and tasks—and used cases including the mining of Shanghai’s public-service hotspot index, crowd evacuation during large-scale events, and multi-agent-based low-carbon urban travel planning to illustrate practical applications of artificial intelligence in transport governance. He also introduced techniques for mitigating AI hallucinations and improving the reliability of model outputs.

On the afternoon of 4 August, Associate Professor Li Jian delivered an academic lecture at the University of Dhaka entitled “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Urban Traffic Management.” The event was chaired by Professor Md. Rakibul Hoque, Chair of the Department of Management Information Systems at the University of Dhaka and Bangladeshi Director of the China Research Center. Drawing on his latest research, Li Jian introduced a knowledge-graph-enhanced method for customs code classification and demonstrated how intelligent agents can generate travel plans that take both real-world constraints and individual needs into account. He also discussed methodological innovation and algorithmic implementation, with particular attention to the key technical challenges facing the application of large language models in specialized fields such as transportation.

Later that afternoon, Associate Professor Li Jian was also invited to appear on "China Focus", by CMG and RTV. The discussion focused on the application of artificial intelligence in practical settings such as traffic governance in Bangladesh, as well as prospects for China–Bangladesh cooperation in related fields.
