Team DU_Prometheus from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), University of Dhaka, has achieved a remarkable victory at HackTheAI – Inter-University National Hackathon 2025.
The national event, powered by SmythOS and hosted by Green University of Bangladesh, featured 242 teams from over 60 universities, showcasing top talent in coding, innovation, and problem-solving.
After rigorous preliminary rounds, the top 50 teams competed in an 8-hour Grand Finale, presenting cutting-edge solutions to a distinguished panel of judges from academia and industry.
DU_Prometheus emerged as the Champion, while teams from SUST and RUET secured the runner-up positions.
The winners received cash prizes and an exclusive remote Software Engineer opportunity with SmythOS (worth $700+), making the achievement truly career-defining.
This outstanding success highlights the excellence and leadership of the CSE Department, University of Dhaka, in national-level innovation and competitive programming.

The MIAKI Presents KUET Inter-University Programming Contest (IUPC) 2025 took place on January 4th, 2025, at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET). This prestigious event brought together talented programmers from universities across the country to compete in a challenging and exciting environment.

The University of Dhaka demonstrated outstanding performance at the event, fielding six teams that showcased exceptional problem-solving skills and determination. Among these teams, two stood out with remarkable achievements: The team DU_Primordius, comprising Munawar Shakil Muhit, Md. Ibrahim Khandakar, and Asif Jawad, achieved the prestigious position of First Runner-Up in the competition. The team managed to solve an impressive seven problems, which is a testament to their technical expertise and exceptional teamwork. Their ability to approach complex problems with innovative solutions was evident throughout the competition, earning them a well-deserved place among the top teams.

Another team, DU_Singularity, also left a strong impression with their outstanding performance. The team, consisting of Sakib Hassan, Yeamin Kaiser, and Ujan Samaddar, secured the 5th position overall. Like DU_Primodius, they solved seven challenging problems, demonstrating remarkable consistency and resilience. Their performance underscored their problem-solving prowess and ability to maintain focus under pressure, contributing significantly to the University of Dhaka’s overall success.

Beyond the competitive success, the event was a fulfilling journey for the participants. It provided them with an opportunity to engage with peers, learn from others, and represent the University of Dhaka on a national stage. The camaraderie, learning experiences, and memories created during the contest made the journey truly worthwhile. The event also served as an excellent platform for networking and fostering connections with fellow enthusiasts in the field of programming.

The UIU Inter-University Programming Contest (IUPC) 2025 was held on January 18th, 2025, at United International University. This highly anticipated event attracted some of the brightest programming minds from universities across the nation, offering a platform for innovation, creativity, and problem-solving.

The University of Dhaka once again demonstrated its programming excellence by fielding six teams that competed with determination and skill. Two teams, in particular, achieved remarkable success: The team DU_Primordius, consisting of Munawar Shakil Muhit, Md. Ibrahim Khandakar, and Asif Jawad, emerged as The Champion of the competition. Solving seven problems, they showcased extraordinary technical expertise, logical thinking, and teamwork. Their ability to tackle a variety of challenging problems with innovative solutions set them apart from the competition and secured their position at the top.

Another strong performance came from DU_Singularity, a team comprising Sakib Hassan, Yeamin Kaiser, and Ujan Samaddar. This team earned the 6th position overall, solving six problems. Their resilience and consistency throughout the competition demonstrated their capability to handle high-pressure situations and their commitment to excellence in competitive programming. The problem set for the UIU IUPC 2025 was renowned for its difficulty, covering a wide range of topics that tested participants on algorithmic thinking, data structure optimization, and advanced programming concepts. The teams faced problems that required not only deep technical knowledge but also the ability to strategize and manage time effectively. The University of Dhaka’s teams rose to the challenge, delivering performances that reflected their dedication and preparation.

Participating in the UIU IUPC 2025 was not just a competition but also a memorable journey for the University of Dhaka teams. The event provided them with an opportunity to interact with like-minded individuals, learn from their peers, and represent their institution on a prestigious platform. The experience fostered personal growth, strengthened team bonds, and left participants with lasting memories of collaboration and achievement. The University of Dhaka’s remarkable performance at the UIU Inter-University Programming Contest 2025 is a proud moment for the institution. The achievements of DU_Primodius and DU_Singularity underscore the university’s commitment to nurturing talent and excellence in computer science and programming. These successes not only bring pride to the university but also inspire future generations to pursue excellence in competitive programming, further solidifying the University of Dhaka’s reputation as a powerhouse of innovation and skill.

The ICPC Asia Dhaka Regional Contest 2024 was held on December 7, 2024, at Daffodil International University, bringing together 308 teams, selected through an online preliminary contest, from across Bangladesh to compete in this prestigious programming competition. The event lasted for five hours, during which participants tackled a challenging set of 12 problems on the bapsoj.org platform. The contest showcased a vibrant spirit of competition, innovation, and teamwork.

The University of Dhaka fielded nine teams in this year’s contest, selected based on prior achievements and competitive performance. Among these, two teams achieved remarkable success, with DU_Singularity securing 2nd place by solving seven problems and DU_Primordius achieving 3rd place with six problems solved. Both teams demonstrated exceptional problem-solving abilities and resilience under pressure, competing against the nation’s best and brightest. Additionally, four of the other teams ranked in the top 50, further highlighting the strength of our representation.

This year’s problem set was both challenging and engaging, requiring participants to exhibit a blend of algorithmic knowledge, analytical thinking, and teamwork. The competition also provided a unique platform for new teams to gain valuable experience, while experienced teams had the opportunity to test their skills against other top-performing groups.

The University of Dhaka extended extensive support to the participants during their preparation phase. Rigorous training sessions, guided by experienced mentors, were organized to ensure the teams were well-equipped to face the competition. On the day of the event, transportation services were provided, ensuring smooth and timely participation.

The contest was graced by distinguished guests and observers from various institutions, making the event even more memorable. The exposure and interactions during the event fostered a spirit of camaraderie and intellectual exchange among participants from diverse backgrounds.

Looking ahead, the top teams will now focus on preparing for the 2024 ICPC Asia West Continent Final Contest, with the ambition of qualifying for the 50th ICPC World Finals. The remaining teams, motivated by this years’ experience, are determined to return stronger in the next edition, equipped with better preparation and refined skills.

Mr. H. Rainad Khan Rohan, a Master's student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), University of Dhaka, was invited with full funding to participate in the "4th Joint ICTP-IAEA Workshop on Physics and Technology of Innovative Nuclear Energy Systems," held at the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, from November 11–15, 2024.

During the poster presentation session, he showcased his research on nuclear reactor and waste management systems. His work earned him the prestigious Best Poster Award along with a cash prize of 200 euros.

Mr. H. Rainad Khan Rohan previously completed his undergraduate and first Master's degree from the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Dhaka. He is now pursuing a second Master's degree at the CSE department.

The National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC) 2023, recently concluded, with Jahangirnagar University's Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) serving as the host. This annual competition is a prestigious platform for universities across Bangladesh to showcase their students' programming prowess. The legacy of Dhaka University competing in different Programming Contests all over the country is enriched and this event also was not an exception to that continuity.

This annual event has plenty of scopes for the student to showcase their mastery of Programming Skills. The primary purpose of NCPC is to cultivate and develop programming skills among university students in Bangladesh. By providing a competitive platform, students are encouraged to hone their abilities in areas like Problem-solving, Teamwork, and Coding Proficiency. The competition presents algorithmic and mathematical challenges that require students to analyze problems, devise solutions using appropriate algorithms and data structures, and implement them efficiently.

Moreover, this annual event fosters a sense of community among aspiring programmers across Bangladesh. Students from different universities get to interact, share knowledge, and learn from each other's approaches to problem-solving. The success and recognition associated with NCPC can motivate students to pursue careers in computer science and software development. Seeing their peers excel in the competition can inspire them to further develop their skills and contribute to the growing tech sector in Bangladesh.

This year, the onsite main round of the competition was held among 196 teams participating from more than 65 universities all over the country. Note that these 196 teams were selected from a 4-hour online preliminary round where around 1100 teams participated. The five-hour-long final contest started at 10:15 AM on Mar 9, 2024. A set of 11 problems was given to the teams to solve.

A total of 8 teams from the University of Dhaka participated in that competition. The team named “Ascending” consisting of Jubayer Rahman Nirjhor, Ayon Shahrier, and Nayeemul Islam Swad became the Champion of NCPC-2023 with a clear margin from the Runnerup team. Moreover, this team is also the Champion of ICPC Dhaka Regional 2024 and going to represent the country as a flagbearer in the 48th Annual World Championship of the International Collegiate Programming Contest whereas two members from this team (Jubayer Rahman Nirjhor, and Ayon Shahrier) are going to participate in the 46th Annual World Championship of the International Collegiate Programming Contest in LUXOR, Egypt.

Another team from the university held the 7th position in the competition. This team “DU_Void” was formed with Ibrahim Khandakar, Yeamin Kaiser, and Munawar Shakil Muhit. The third team from this university, “DU_Scolps”, stood in 18th place in the final rank list. This team consists of Sakib Hassan, Bholanath Das Niloy, and Asif Jawad. Note that Sakib Hassan, Yeamin Kaiser, and Bholanath Das Niloy are going to represent the university in the 47th Annual World Championship of the International Collegiate Programming Contest in LUXOR, Egypt.

Apart from these 3 wonderful performances, du____long_shot____, DU_3Musketeers, and  DU_Untitled.V5 participated and placed in the top 30 in the NCPC-2023. The rest of the participating teams from the University of Dhaka have also placed in the top 100 teams.

The DU_Bayanno team, comprised of Abdullah Ibne Hanif Arean (CSE 26th Batch), Ashraful Islam Shanto Sikder (IIT 11th Batch) and Nazmus Sakib (IIT 11th Batch), demonstrated remarkable prowess becoming Champion in the Natural Language Processing segment at the "ভাষা উৎসব ও জাতীয় ভাষা সেমিনার ২০২৪," meticulously organized by the esteemed Linguistics Department of the University of Dhaka.

The DU_Bayanno team took on the challenge of digitizing Bengali literature and journalism. They noticed that although Bengali literature has a long history, it's not easily accessible online. So, they came up with a plan to digitize Bengali texts thoroughly. Their meticulously crafted pipeline for data digitization, encompassing various stages such as segmentation, preprocessing, post processing, OCR/HCR, and the structured organization of data for researchers, presented a pioneering pathway toward advancing research in Bengali natural language processing. Their participation in the event not only showcased their groundbreaking idea but also fostered a collaborative environment, with numerous institutions contributing diverse perspectives and insights. 

The culmination of the event was marked by a grand ceremony, where the DU_Bayanno team was honoured with an award presented by the distinguished Vice Chancellor of University of Dhaka, Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal sir. This accolade not only celebrates their triumph but also underscores the importance of their endeavor in preserving and promoting the linguistic and cultural heritage of Bangladesh.

The United International University Inter University NLP Competition "ভাষামূল: মূখের ভাষার খোঁজে" held from February 8th to February 20th, 2024, on Kaggle, March 1st and 2nd, 2024 onsite witnessed enthusiastic participation from various institutions across Bangladesh. Team_Khita_Kortesi, led by Abdullah Ibne Hanif Arean, in securing the "1st Runners-up" position in the competition.

Team_Khita_Kortesi was led by Abdullah Ibne Hanif Arean from the CSE 26th Batch, with members including Nazmus Sakib and Ashraful Islam Shanto Sikder from the IIT 11th Batch. The name is a tribute to team member Ashraful Islam Shanto Sikder’s mother language Sylheti.

The competition unfolded over a span of 20 days, during which participants engaged in developing solutions for IPA transcription of Bengali text with regional dialects. Phase 1 of the Competition saw active participation, with 98 teams and 450 entries submitted on Kaggle Subsequently, Phase 2, conducted on March 1st and 2nd, involved the top 20 teams advancing to On-site presentations at UIU. The judging criteria encompassed solution quality, presentation effectiveness, and inference time.

Team_Khita_Kortesi employed innovative methodologies to tackle the challenges of the competition. They introduced a T5 (Text to Text Generation Transformer by Google) model with special preprocessing and post-processing methods. Additionally, due to technical constraints in cloud-based alternatives, the team utilized a specialized hardware provided by Dr. Md. Mosaddek Khan, featuring an NVIDIA RTX 3090 GPU with 24GB of memory.

Team_Khita_Kortesi's diligent efforts and innovative approaches led them to secure the "1st Runners-up" position in the competition. Their success underscores their commendable prowess and dedication to excellence in natural language processing.

Dhaka University has achieved an outstanding result in the ICPC Asia Dhaka Regional 2022 hosted by Green University on March 11, 2023 which is the most prestigious programming competition in the world. The University secured the first and second positions in the competition. Both teams are comprised of students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Department. The champion team, DU_Kronos, will represent the University in the ICPC World Final-2022 to be held in Egypt in November 2023. Additionally, another guest team from Dhaka University came third in the unofficial standings. A total of 162 teams from 128 different universities from all over the country participated in the main contest.

It's worth mentioning that Dhaka University has been the reigning champion for the past three years, surpassing other prominent universities such as BUET and SUST.
