Jannatul Islam Muna has received the prestigious New Leaders Award for 2026–2027 from the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T), an 89-year-old U.S-based information science association.
The New Leaders Program is designed to engage, support, and develop future leaders within ASIS&T through structured mentorship and professional development opportunities. As part of this program, awardees are paired with experienced mentors who guide them throughout a formal mentorship period, helping them strengthen leadership capacity, expand professional networks, and contribute to the global information science community.
As an award recipient, Jannatul Islam Muna will participate in the 2026–2027 mentorship program, where she will work closely with an ASIS&T mentor to further develop her leadership skills and professional engagement in the field of Information Science and Library Management.
She will also attend the ASIS&T Annual Meeting 2026, which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from November 6–10, 2026, one of the most significant international conferences in the discipline. ASIS&T will cover her conference registration fee and provide a travel stipend to support her participation. This opportunity will allow her to engage with international scholars, researchers, and practitioners, exchange ideas, and explore emerging trends in information science and technology.
Her engagement with ASIS&T began in 2022. Since then, she has served as a Volunteer (2022–2023), Membership Officer of the ASIS&T South Asia Chapter (2024–2025), and is currently serving as Secretary of the ASIS&T South Asia Chapter (2025–2026). She also serves as Social Media Officer of the Special Interest Group for Libraries (SIG LIB), ASIS&T, contributing to outreach and professional communication activities. Jannatul Islam Muna is currently an M.Phil. student, working in the area of Workplace information literacy under the supervision of Professor Md. Anwarul Islam at the Department of Information Science and Library Management at the University of Dhaka. She completed B.A (Honors) in 2021 and Master’s degree in 2022 from the same department.
