On the occasion of the ‘Dhaka University Day’, 1st July 2016, the Department arranged a colourful procession under the leadership of the Chairman Chandana Rani Biswas in which the teachers and the students of the Department took part. After the procession sweetmeats were distributed among the participants.


The Sanskrit Debating Club in cooperation with the financial help of Anwara Basit Memorial Foundation organised a debating ceremony in Teacher-Student Centre and RC Mazumdar Arts Auditorium from 18th to 21st August, 2016 with the slogan “yuktir michile bhangi magajer curfew” (we break the curfew of intelligence in the line of logic). The ceremony was inauguratel by Kazi Rosi, a poet and a member of parliament. In this four day long ceremony there were debating workshop, inter department Bangla parliamentarian debate competition, Bangla public debate competition, English public speaking competition, delightful debate, conferring honour, release of the cover of publication, flying paper-balloon etc. In the concluding session the function was presided over ANM Fakhrul Amin, the president of the club and the chief guest of the function was Professor Dr. Akhtaruzzaman, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) and the special guest was Chandana Rani Biswas, Chairman of the Department.


The Victory day was observed in the morning of 16th December, 2016 in the corridor of the Department. Chandana Rani Biswas, chairman of the department presided over the function where the teachers and students were present. Professor Narayan Chandra Biswas and Chandana Rani Biswas took part in discussion and Departmental cultural club performed patriotic songs.


On 15th January 2017 the Departmental freshers’ welcome ceremony and farewell reception to the outgoing students were held in the auditorium of the Teachers Students Centre. The function was presided over by the Chairman Chandana Rani Biswas and the chief guest of the function was Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Honorable Pro-VC (Administration). Professor Dr. Begum Akhter Kamal, Honorable Dean (in charge) of the Faculty of Arts and Tagore-chair  Professor  Dr. Mahuya Mukherjee were the special guest in the function. An attractive cultural programme was performed by the teachers and students of the Department.


The students of the Department arranged the worship of Sarasvati, the goddess of learning, on 31st January 2016 in the Jagannath Hall sports ground. Departmental teachers and students participated in the occasion.


The students of BA Honours and MA led by Professor Dr. Malabika Biswas, Dr. Mayna Talukder, Sanchita Guha (Students Advisor) and  Mr. Kalidas Bhakta of the Department, went for a study tour to Cox’s Bazar, Sentmartin from 10th February to 14th February, 2017.


The students of the 4th Year BA Honours 7th Semester led by Mr. Kalidas Bhakta, Assistant Professor of the Department, went for a four day long (16th-19th March, 2016)  study tour as per their syllabus to Kantajee Temple, Ramsagar, Zemindar house of the Maharaja in Dinajpur, Mahasthangar in Bogura and Paharpur Vihar in Naoga.


In the afternoon of 13th April, 2017 the cultural club of the department celebrated Chaitra Samkranti (the last day of the Bengali year) in the corridor of the department where  the Chairman Chandana Rani Biswas and teachers and students of the department were present.


On 20th April, 2017 a function was held in the RC Mazumdar Arts Auditorium on the occasion of book-giving by the Indian High Commission and the celebration of the completion of two years of the departmental cultural club. Chandana Rani Biswas, Chairman of the department presided over the function. Prof. Dr. Akhtaruzzaman, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) was the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Delwar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Arts was the special guest and Mr. Jishnu Prosanna Mukherjee, the First Secretary of Indian High Commission was the guest of honour.
