A six-member delegation led by Mr. Scott Hartmann, Director for Public Engagement of Public Diplomacy Section, US Embassy in Bangladesh called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam today August 23, 2026 at the latter’s office of the university. Others members of the delegation were Mr. James A. Stewart, Raihana Sultana, Faroha Suhrawardy, Md. Iqbal Mahmud and A. Q. M. Mushfiq Hassan of the same embassy.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of DU Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque and Director of the Office of International Affairs Prof. Dr. Syeda Rozana Rashid were present on this occasion.
During the meeting they discussed about holding an event on 17 September, 2026 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of Dhaka University to celebrate US constitution day. Holding seminars and public lectures at DU with the participation of US experts were also discussed in the meeting. They also discussed the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs on constitutional law as well as introducing dual degree programs among the University of Dhaka and various universities in USA.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam thanked the US Embassy in Bangladesh for undertaking restoration and preservation project of Mughul era Musa Khan Mosque at DU. He sought cooperation from US delegation in undertaking more projects in preserving the various heritages at DU.
