Dr. Md Safiqul Islam working as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry, University of Dhaka (DU). In 2010, he started working as a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at DU. He received his BSc and MS degrees from the same university's Department of Chemistry. He went to the USA in 2013 for pursuing his higher studies. In 2018, he received his PhD from Auburn University in the United States. He specializes in the monitoring of light-induced reactions and the photochemical chain reaction. He has developed a SPEEK/PVA film that can be attached to a variety of surfaces, including textiles and construction materials, and which has a potential use in the transformation of chlorinated hazardous compounds. After receiving his doctorate, Dr. Islam conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Notre Dame for one year. During his postdoctoral term, he conducted research on the monitoring of corrosion in metal alloys when exposed to electron beam radiation at high temperatures and pressures, and he acquired knowledge in the development of accident-tolerant fuels (ATF) for nuclear power plants. He returned to the department in 2019 and immediately began teaching and conducting research in order to share the information he had gained throughout his higher studies time. He then expanded his research area in environmental chemistry and atmospheric chemistry, particularly in the areas of air pollution monitoring and health risk assessment. He focuses his current research on air and water pollution monitoring, source fingerprinting, and viable mitigation. He has attended conferences both nationally and internationally. He has a few of peer-reviewed publications to his credit. He won several honors and prizes for his outstanding academic performance. He now wishes to devote his time to study and teaching, drawing on his previous experiences gained throughout his higher education in the United States.
