Umme Wara is an Associate Professor, the Department of Criminology, University of Dhaka. She is a PhD candidate in the University of Warwick, UK from November 2022. After completing LLB and LLM from University of Dhaka with First class, she got AusAID’s scholarship to pursue her second Masters on Transnational Crime Prevention from University of Wollongong, Australia. Later she completed another Masters from University of Torino, Italy on International Crime and Justice with scholarship. She has also joined the Legal Volunteers Team of liberation War Museum in 2011 and led the team through working on the issues of sexual violence committed in 1971 Liberation war of Bangladesh. She attended Asia-Pacific Regional Women’s Hearing on Gender Based Violence during Conflict as a legal interpreter held in Cambodia on 2012. In 2013 she presented a paper on War heroines of Bangladesh during the International Conference on Bangladesh Genocide held in Heidelberg University, Germany. Presently, she is doing her research on Reparation for war time rape survivors as a Junior Research Fellow of Center for Genocide Studies, University of Dhaka. She aspires to contribute more on issues of genocide and sexual violence in future.
