Message from the Chairman

It is with profound honour and sincere optimism that I extend my warmest greetings to all students, faculty members and staff of the Department of Law, University of Dhaka.

As the newly appointed Chairman, I am deeply mindful of the Department’s illustrious legacy. Since its establishment as part of one of the founding faculties of the University of Dhaka, the Department of Law has consistently upheld its reputation as a premier institution for legal education in Bangladesh. Our century-long journey, marked by academic excellence, intellectual leadership and an enduring commitment to justice, stands as a testament to the dedication of our predecessors and the relentless pursuit of excellence by our students and faculty.

Looking ahead, we remain firmly committed to strengthening and modernizing the Department’s academic and physical infrastructure. Enhancing student facilities including the expansion of library resources, upgrading reading spaces, and increasing access to digital research tools and international e-subscriptions, remains one of our foremost priorities. These improvements are essential for nurturing a dynamic academic environment suited to the demands of contemporary legal education.

Equally important is the maintenance of discipline and the smooth operation of all academic and administrative processes. A respectful, orderly, and supportive environment is the bedrock upon which rigorous scholarship and meaningful learning flourish. To this end, we will work collaboratively to ensure that the Department remains a space defined by integrity, professionalism, and mutual respect.

We also aim to expand the Department’s scholarly footprint by organising a wide array of academic events such as seminars, conferences, public lectures and collaborative research initiatives. These platforms will allow our students and faculty to engage with emerging legal debates and contribute to national and global conversations on law and justice.

Beyond academics, the Department recognises the importance of fostering holistic personal development. We will continue to support students’ participation in extra-curricular activities, including sports, debating, cultural programmes and various club initiatives. Such engagements enrich the student experience and build essential skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Our ultimate aspiration is to cultivate graduates who are not only intellectually sharp but also morally grounded, individuals who embody integrity, responsibility and an unwavering commitment to the service of the nation. In an era defined by rapid change and increasing global interconnectedness, we must nurture lawyers and thinkers capable of addressing the social, economic, and ethical challenges of our time.

As we continue to honour our rich heritage, let us also embrace the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead.
