Description of course:
This course bears the influence of Persian Qasida, Marsia, Masnavi, Rubayi, Dastan etc. on Urdu’s same branches. And the influence of English literature such as Poetry, Criticism, Novel, Drama, Short stories, Journalism, Sitter, Humor and satire, Biography, History etc’s on Urdu’s same branches.
Objectives of the Course:
Influence of Persian:
To teach the students how the Persian literature continues to preserve its influence on Urdu literature and the lovers of texts in Farsi look at them as golden sheets of treasure. In this course we will refer to the extent of interest shown in the prose and verse of Persian literary subjects on Urdu literature.
The similarities and relationship between the Persian literature and Urdu literature originating from a single route is quite apparent.
With regard to literature too should we make a fair comparison of Persian literature with a major part of the subcontinent's literature, we will see many works in Urdu literature fully influenced by Farsi texts or translation of Farsi texts. For example such an influence is quite visible in Urdu verse, prose, fiction and non-fiction. Existence of over 60 percent of Farsi terms in Urdu.
Influence of English:
The British not only captured the Indian throne but they had also established their colonies in majority of the world. They were powerful politically and technically and they had no rival. It was during the golden age of Europe when great progress in the field of science and technology was made. It was the time during which English was developing rapidly. Soon it achieved the status of a language which was fully equipped in order to face the challenges of the rapidly changing world. This is the reason why it has attained the glory of the international language.
To teach the students how English literature came into contact with Urdu literature. Moreover, it outlines factors involved in borrowing from English literature to Urdu literature. It substantiates the influence of English literature on Urdu literature and demonstrates the conscious and unconscious shift of literary items from one literature to another during the interaction between writers writing different literatures under any circumstances.
