4th Najma Chowdhury Memorial Lecture Delivered by Professor Lamia Karim
The 4th Najma Chowdhury Memorial Lecture was organized by the Department of Women and Gender Studies, University of Dhaka, in association with the Centre for Gender and Development Studies. The lecture was delivered by Professor Dr Lamia Karim, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Oregon, and was attended by teachers and students of the Department, as well as distinguished guests. Drawing on her recent book, Castoffs of Capital, Professor Karim delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the lived experiences and subjectivities of older women garment workers who have left the formal workforce, while reflecting on questions of labour, necropolitics, and the emerging livelihood challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
