The Master of Public Health (MPH) program of the University of Dhaka is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both foundational and advanced areas of public health. In the early part of the program, students are introduced to essential concepts of public health systems, epidemiology, biostatistics, population health, and global health. These foundational courses equip students with the analytical capacity, theoretical grounding, and scientific understanding needed to examine population health issues and interpret health data. Students develop strong skills in understanding disease patterns, measuring health indicators, evaluating global health challenges, and assessing the social, demographic, and environmental forces that shape health outcomes.
In the advanced phase of the program, students explore specialized areas of public health in greater depth. The curriculum covers critical topics such as research methodology, public health policy and planning, leadership and health management, health economics, public health nutrition, reproductive and sexual health, communication strategies, occupational health, ageing and health, environmental health, climate change, and maternal and child health. Through these areas, students gain the ability to design, implement, and evaluate public health programs; conduct high-quality research; understand and influence health policies; and apply leadership skills in diverse organizational and community contexts. The program culminates in a master’s dissertation, internship, comprehension examination, and viva-voce, ensuring that graduates develop both practical expertise and academic rigor, preparing them for leadership roles in public health practice, research, and policy.
