MPhil Program in Public Health
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program in Public Health at the University of Dhaka is a research-intensive graduate program designed to strengthen advanced academic competence and cultivate high-quality researchers in the field of public health. The program aims to develop scholars who are capable of conducting independent, scientifically rigorous research that addresses critical health challenges in Bangladesh and the global context.
The MPhil program provides a strong foundation in both theoretical and methodological aspects of public health. Students are required to complete a set of compulsory coursework during the first year, which covers essential topics such as epidemiology, biostatistics, research methods, health systems, public health policy, and other relevant advanced modules. These courses ensure that MPhil candidates build the necessary theoretical understanding, analytical capacity, and methodological skills required for high-level research.
Upon successful completion of the coursework, students will undertake a supervised research project leading to the submission of an MPhil thesis. Under the guidance of experienced faculty members from the Department of Public Health, students will develop a research proposal, conduct fieldwork, collect and analyse data, and prepare a dissertation that contributes new insights to public health knowledge.
The MPhil program encourages interdisciplinary learning, ethical research practices, and innovative thinking. It prepares graduates for careers in academia, health research institutes, government agencies, NGOs, international organizations, and policy-oriented roles. The program also serves as an excellent stepping stone for students aspiring to pursue a PhD.
