A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the International Centre for Ocean Governance (ICOG), University of Dhaka, and the Research Center for Deep Sea of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia, with the aim of strengthening research collaboration in the fields of ocean science, climate change, and the Blue Economy.
The MoU signing ceremony was held on Thursday, 25 June 2026, at the conference room adjacent to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka. Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer of the University of Dhaka, and Professor Dr. A'an Wahyudi, Head of the Research Center for Deep Sea under Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.
This agreement on research collaboration in ocean science, climate change, and the Blue Economy opens a new avenue for long-term cooperation between Bangladesh and Indonesia in the areas of marine scientific research, climate change studies, Blue Economy development, capacity building, academic exchange, and joint scientific initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury emphasized the importance of international research partnerships in addressing global challenges related to climate change, ocean governance, and sustainable development. He expressed optimism that this collaboration between the University of Dhaka and BRIN would create new opportunities for cutting-edge research, scientific capacity enhancement, and the exchange of knowledge and innovation to advance the Blue Economy agendas of both countries.
Among others present at the ceremony were Professor Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Dhaka; Professor Dr. Tonia Astrid Capuano, Visiting Scientist at ICOG; Professor Dr. Syeda Rozana Rashid, Director of the International Affairs Office, University of Dhaka; and researchers and representatives from BRIN’s Research Center for Deep Sea, Indonesia. The event was coordinated by Professor Dr. K. M. Azam Chowdhury, Director of the International Centre for Ocean Governance (ICOG).
The signing of this MoU marks another significant milestone in ICOG’s continued commitment to promoting the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources, strengthening research collaboration, and expanding global partnerships in ocean governance and marine science.
