    The University of Dhaka Geophysical Society (UDGS) is a student chapter of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) with the mission of promote Geophysics to energize the planet Earth. UDGS affiliated with the SEG on 20th September 2006. SEG Embracing a mission of connecting the world of applied geophysics, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) is a not-for-profit organization supporting 27,000 members from 128 countries. Founded in 1930, SEG provides information, tools, and resources vital to: Advancing the science of exploration geophysics, Fostering common scientific interests, Supporting humanitarian efforts, Accelerating geophysical innovation

    SPE Dhaka University Chapter (Year:2007)

    About

    SPE Dhaka University chapter is a non profit professional organization and a student chapter of SPE International with a view to circulating and exchanging technical knowledge regarding the exploration, development and production of petroleum.SPE Dhaka University Chapter initiated its journey on 1st October 2007, with an executive committee, consisting of 6 members with an annual changing motion. Currently there are 87 serving members. Since its initiation it has always been concerned about the welfare and interests of the members and arranging several annual Seminars, Conferences, Lecture programs, General meetings, Workshops and different types of competitions like Debating, Petro bowl and Poster Competition. Engaging students into practical and innovative thinking concerning the present energy crisis and exploring the world’s energy sectors was always being the main intention of SPE-DU. To accomplish the goal we have arranged the first ever national level petroleum conference.This year SPE-DU committee arranged SPE CONFERENCE 2017 with a motto of introducing students to the Petroleum Sectors of Bangladesh from professional point of view. Workshop and a number of competitive events were arranged as a part of Conference for the purpose of collaborative learning.The workshop arranged by SPE-DU was conducted by Tamanna Afroz, Petrotechnical Expert, Schlumberger.With the goal of introducing research methodology to undergraduate students as well as providing a stepping stone for graduate research, Poster Competition was also arranged as an integral part of the Conference, 2017. Investigating a theory or hypothesis from different viewpoints is the core of any scientific analysis. Keeping this in mind a Debate Competition concerning Petroleum Geology of Bangladesh was organized by SPE DU Chapter. Containing 3 members, total 8 groups of undergraduate students participated in this competitive event.

    AAPG Dhaka University Chapter (Year:2014)

    About

    The ‘AAPG - University of Dhaka Student Chapter’ has started its journey in 2014 to create opportunities for the geology students of this chapter to get involved in various types of educational activities. So, accordingly, this chapter is now devoted to arrange various types of workshops, seminars, lecture programs and competitions involving the students.

    Purpose

    The ‘AAPG - University of Dhaka Student Chapter’ is a student organization with the purpose of developing students’ skills both in academic and professional activities. Some of the key focal points of our chapter include organizing field trips, arranging educational programs and coordinating networking opportunities with Geoscience professionals.

    Members and Officers

    Membership is open for all the students of the University of Dhaka. Students interested in becoming members may join after attending a meeting. There are four officials and two advisors in this chapter, to lead and conduct the activities of the chapter.

    Activities

    After starting the journey in 2014, this chapter has not only confined in arranging programs, but also took several initiatives to develop the skill of the students by arranging competitions.

    EAGE DU is a student organization dedicated to education and advancements in Environmental and Engineering geology, Geophysics,Petroleum Geo sciences and Hydro geology. The activities of the chapter range from seminar series to field trips and outreach.

    Geo-Photographic Club (GPC) (Year:2015)

    About

    Geo-Photographic Club (GPC), Department of Geology, University of Dhaka started it’s journey in 2013 with a goal to provide proper knowledge of geo-photography among students and also extract new ways of photography.This club has arranged Three successful exhibitions within this time of period, where photos of geological structures and features got the dominance with other varieties which were taken by the students, teachers and alumni members.

    Geo-Cultural Club (GCC) (Year:2018)

    About
    Geo-Cultural Club started its journey in June 2017 and is currently the youngest club of the Department of Geology, University of Dhaka. This club has added a new dimension to the department, portraying the enthusiasm for cultural activities

    Vision

    The purpose of Geo-Cultural Club is not only to entertain but to give an opportunity to the students who take earnest interest in cultural activities to participate in dramas, singing, dancing and even poem recitations. The Freshers' reception program, which is held every year to welcome the freshers, has been a platform for the students to showcase their talents. Eventually a lot of people have emerged as performers who are now making their marks by participating in other cultural competitions too. Other programs, like DUGAA and GeoExposure, Geo-Cultural Club plays an indispensable role in enhancing the glamour of such programs. Although, GeoCultural Club is still a fledgling, the cultural side of the department has always been full of life. The club is just an accumulation of people who put all their efforts to make these events innovative and enjoyable.
