On the morning of October 14, 2026, the Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka (CIDU) hosted the 2026 Chinese Film Day & 10th-Anniversary Video Release Ceremony at the Auditorium of the Institute of Modern Languages (IML), University of Dhaka. Distinguished guests included Prof. Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Dhaka; Mr. Li Shaopeng, Cultural Counsellor, Embassy of China in Bangladesh; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Absar Kamal, Director of the IML and Local Director of CIDU; and Dr. Yang Hui, Chinese Director of CIDU. Chinese and Bangladeshi teachers and students celebrated the 10th anniversary together.
The event opened with Flowing Stream, a Yunnan folk song performed by the Shan Hai Chinese Choir of CIDU.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Absar Kamal delivered welcome remarks, congratulating CIDU on its 10th anniversary and reviewing its achievements in Chinese language teaching and cultural exchange. He hoped CIDU would continue to serve as a bridge for China-Bangladesh educational and cultural cooperation.
Prof. Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane reflected on the ten-year partnership between the University of Dhaka and Yunnan University. He noted that CIDU has become a key platform for Chinese language education and cultural exchange and helped launch Bangladesh’s first Chinese undergraduate program. The two universities recently signed an MoU for a 2+1+1 joint undergraduate program in Chinese. He thanked the Embassy of China in Bangladesh and Yunnan University for their long-term support and said the University would deepen cooperation in teaching, research, and cultural exchange.
Mr. Li Shaopeng highlighted the significance of people-to-people exchange, noting that “friendship between nations lies in the closeness of their peoples, and that closeness lies in the connection of their hearts.” He added that “film knows no borders, and culture brings hearts together,” and encouraged students to keep learning Chinese, use the language as a window to understand a real and well-rounded China, and serve as cultural messengers for China-Bangladesh friendship in the new era.
CIDU’s 10th-anniversary video was officially released. Titled “Which Moment Ignited Your Life Because of CIDU?”, it reviewed the Institute’s decade through the eyes of its teachers, capturing classroom teaching and cultural events. The Chinese film Dear You was then screened. Centered on qiaopi (overseas Chinese remittance letters), it told touching stories of family bonds, integrity, and nostalgia. The post-screening discussion was lively, with students offering blessings for CIDU’s 10th anniversary and sharing their gains from learning Chinese. Many were moved by the family affection spanning mountains and seas and looked forward to more film events.
Going forward, CIDU will continue to promote Chinese language education and cultural exchange and contribute to China-Bangladesh people-to-people connectivity.
