Director General of Japan Foundation in South Asia Mr. Sato Koji paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam today March 29, 2026 at the latters office of the university. He was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Srabani Roy Choudhury, President of Japan Studies Association in South Asia and Prof. Dr. Debendra Sahu of Jindal Global University, India.
Chairman of DU Japanese Studies Department Prof. Dr. Md Jahangir Alam, Secretary General of Japanese Studies Association in South Asia Prof. Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun and some other faculty members were present on this occasion.
During the meeting DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam stressed the need for strengthening bilateral relationship among Dhaka University and different universities in Japan through educational cooperation and cultural exchange programs. He also emphasized on undertaking more joint collaborative academic and research programs among Dhaka University and Japanese universities.
It may be mentioned that, Director General of Japan Foundation in South Asia Mr. Sato Koji and other team members are now on a visit to Bangladesh for attending a two-day long Young Scholar Conference on ‘Japan’s Soft Diplomacy in South Asia : Change and Continuity’. The Japanese Studies Association in South Asia (JSASA) and the Department of Japanese Studies (DJS) of Dhaka University have jointly organized this event in cooperation with Japan Foundation. This conference to be held on 30 March 2026 at 10:00 am at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University.
A total of 40 young scholars from Bangladesh, Japan, China, India, Napal and Sri Lanka will participate in the conference.
