We are pleased to share that the public lecture on Waning Crescent: The Rise and Fall of Global Islam by Professor Faisal Devji, Beit Professor of Global and Imperial History at the University of Oxford, was successfully held on 26 July 2026 at the R. C. Majumdar Arts Auditorium, University of Dhaka.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Md. Abu Sayem, moderated by Dr. Mohammad Elius, and enriched by the critical reflections of Dr. Shafi Md. Mostofa and Saleh Khan as Special Discussants.
The lecture generated an engaging academic discussion on Islam as a historical, civilisational, and ideological subject, as well as on questions of sovereignty, authority, and political agency explored in Professor Devji’s book.
