A memorial meeting in honour of Professor Kazi Shahidullah titled “In Reverence and Love: A Tribute to Professor Kazi Shahidullah – A Distinguished Academic” (Sroddhay Bhalobashay Smoron: Professor Kazi Shahidullah — Ek Kirtiman Shikkhoker Proti Sroddhargyo) was jointly organized by the Department of History, University of Dhaka, and the Department Alumni Association to pay profound respect to the memory of renowned academician, former Vice-Chancellor of the National University, and former Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Professor Kazi Shahidullah.
The memorial meeting was held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 3:30 PM at the Sirajul Islam Lecture Hall of the University of Dhaka. The event was attended by Professor Shahidullah’s colleagues, former and current students of the department, well-wishers, and members of his family. His wife, Mrs. Shabnam Shahidullah, and son, Riyad Shahidullah, were also present at the occasion.
Eminent teachers of the Department of History and distinguished personalities shared heartfelt recollections of Professor Kazi Shahidullah’s life, work and contributions. Among the speakers were Syed Anwar Hussain, M. Delwar Hossain, Sharifuddin Ahmed, Sonia Nishat Amin,
Ansar Uddin, Sharifullah Bhuiyan, Fakrul Alam, Ahmed Abdullah Jamal, Nurul Huda Abul Monsur, Shah Kawthar Mustafa Abululayee, Asha Islam Nayeem, Milton Kumar Dev, Nazir Ahmad Simab, Shanta Patronobish among others. On this occasion, a commemorative book titled “Smritipothe Kazi Shahidullah” (In the Memory of Kazi Shahidullah), edited by Ashfaque Hossain, was published and distributed among the attendees.
It is worth to mention that arrangements were made for participation through the online platform Zoom, which enabled many of Professor Shahidullah’s students and colleagues residing abroad to join the meeting virtually. Throughout the event, speakers remembered Professor Kazi Shahidullah’s outstanding academic contributions, his career, and his humane qualities. All present offered prayers for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
The memorial meeting was presided over by Ashfaque Hossain, Chairman of the Department of History, University of Dhaka, and General Secretary of the History Department Alumni Association.
