A day-long China-Bangladesh Round Table on Governance Experience Exchange was held today May 08, 2026 at Inter-Continental Dhaka. Centre for China Studies of Dhaka University and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), China jointly organized this event.

Education Minister Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon addressed the opening session as chief guest while Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh Mr. Yao Wen and President of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), China Prof. Dr. Chen Dongxiao addressed it as special guests. Director General of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) Major General A S M Ridwanur Rahman moderated the opening session.  

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam said, China is one of the vital and trusted development partners for Bangladesh. He stressed the need for strengthening bilateral relationship between these two countries as well as expansion of cooperation in infrastructure, renewable energy, digital transformation and industrial development. He also emphasized on undertaking more collaborative programs in education, research and skills development, which are essential for building a modern, knowledge-based economy. He sought cooperation from China in promoting urban and water management systems as well as innovative solutions for our complex river systems and transportation networks. Pointing Dhaka University has become a major hub for China studies in Bangladesh, the VC said Centre for China Studies of DU would play an effective role in promoting the development of China-Bangladesh ties.  

It may be mentioned that, academicians, researchers, experts and policy makers from Bangladesh and China participated in different sessions of a day-long round table on Governance Experience Exchange.
